Humane Society International Launches spay/neuter program in Bhutan.HSI on partnership with the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Bhutan Foundation are conducting a nationwide program to spay/neuter and vaccinate close to 50,000 dogs within 3-5 years.  Overpopulation of free-roaming dogs has been a major problem in Bhutan. For this Buddhist nation, controlling their numbers using fatal methods was never an option.Catch-neuter-vaccinate-release (CNVR) is a humane alternative to controlling the country's street dog population. A dog will generally stake out a certain area and not venture into another dog's territory.

Jackpot was rescued by The HSUS from a Texas puppy mill in August 2009. She was adopted by an HSUS staffer.In August 2009, The HSUS, in conjunction with the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake and the Kaufman County Sheriffs Department, rescued more than 500 dogs and approximately 15 cats from Klassic Kennels (also known as Peggys Perfect Pets), a Kaufman County puppy mill.
