GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE, March 2005. Three sealing vessels wait for the opening day of Canada's commercial seal hunt.  This harp seal will most likely be clubbed for his skin during the hunt. Each year, hundreds of thousands of seals are clubbed and shot to death in Canada for their fur. This annual commercial seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals in the world.

Parrots and iguanas are sold on the side of the road on the Pan-American highway.As part of its ongoing effort to reduce the impact of illegal wildlife trade, Humane Society International collaborated with the Fundación Amigos del Zoológico Nicaragüense (FAZOONIC), and the U.S. State Department to establish new facilities for the rescue center that rehabilitates confiscated wildlife in Nicaragua. The new facilities, located on the outskirts of the capital city of Managua, opened in June  2011 and receives about 1,000 animals  a year.

Tony and Donna Demetriades 240-acre wildlife sanctuary is in the heart of Centennial Valley in Montana. Megan Parker and Pepin with Working Dogs for Conservation are working with HSWLT to determine what keystone species use the Demetriades property.

The U.S. Forest Service and the Prairie Dog Coalition relocate prairie dogs from shooting and poisoning zones into protected areas on Thunder Basin National Grassland in Wyoming. The HSUS relocates prairie dogs on Thunder Basin National Grasslands.
